When the club was discussing a possible new layout, several members took a close look at the Lynton & Barnstaple, the much-loved narrow gauge line that met the standard gauge at Barnstaple. The club went in a different direction, so the group carried on as a private venture: the NG7 group.
Each section represents a block section of the real railway and is built as a module, so sections can be joined in different formations to suit the space at a show. Sections built so far include Barnstaple (Chris Jenner), Pilton Yard and Quay (John Shaw), Woody Bay (Richard Read) and a scenic section with Chelfham Viaduct (Bev Dunstan and Jerry Griffin), with Bratton Fleming now being added by Andy Keane.
Baseboards are by Grainge & Hodder, with agreed alignment and connections. Track power is DCC, and each member operates their own section in their own way. The group uses laser cutting and etching, 3D printing and plenty of artistic talent, and new sections can be added, as there are many more stations and scenic spots on the line to model.
