Chairman’s Chatter: July 2025

Published 1 July 2025

General News

Having settled into our new home, it’s good to see many members getting involved with projects. We welcome two new members, Andy Keane and David Pinch, and welcome their input to club activities. The AGM appears in the program so please try to attend this important meeting. We shall hopefully wrap up the “Fit out” plans for the club room, i.e. sign them off as complete, and set up plans for the next 12 months, e.g., possible new layout, etc.

Redbridge Wharf

2025 started with a successful outing for Redbridge Wharf at Alton model railway show in February but with our impending move looming to new premises at Easter, we knew we had a busy few months ahead. We used Tony's shed for the last time and will be forever grateful to him for homing Redbridge for the last 16 months.

The planning, decorating and moving into our new club room couldn't have gone any better, again thanks to all involved, a great team effort.

Rich had a "great idea" to run RW in early 90's Network SouthEast livery for the Brockenhurst show, which now was only 5 or 6 weeks away (what could possibly go wrong!) thanks to his organisation and attention to detail we pulled it all together and had a great show with encouraging feedback from the public. (with a few more grey hairs for Rich!)

Next up for RW is our showcase day in Chandlers Ford with a reduced sequence, will be fun!

Abbotstone

Abbotstone is back up as many of you will know. All seems to work OK in DC mode and Chris, and I are now checking we can convert to DCC when needed. As some stage we shall commit to certain running nights (and afternoons) to DCC running, the remainder to DC. Remember we can run both having only one half changed if required. Scenic attention is for our work nights, some repairs needed. August 6th is a training/teach-in evening for those who wish to learn about Abbotstone.

Our Showcase Day is now close. The club has never carried out an event like this before, so bear with us as we progress through setting up and the Saturday. We have lots of guest helpers (stewards) so please look after them and use them as you see fit. Remember to enjoy the day and share the enjoyment of railway modelling.

Other Business

With the Potters Heron now closed, I would like suggestions for a suitable venue for our annual trophy presentation and dinner. We do need a private room, preferably with no room fee.

Fancy being part of the next Chatter?

Your first three club nights are free. Come and see what we're building.
